If you straddle between sizes, your true size is the middle size. (If you're between a 4 and 6, your true size would be a 5.)
For our curvy girls sizes 14W-24W, we recommend dropping one size from your dept. store. If you carry your weight in your hips, thighs, and booty, we suggest staying with your dept. store size, unless noted by our models.
